Alongside master recording and copyright assets, other major currencies of the music business include: communication of release schedules, metadata, sales reporting and marketing information. Partner systems are not interoperable; therefore, ongoing investment in updating legacy systems and maintenance is required. NARM believes the syndication, aggregation, and filtration of this information in an efficient, cost-effective way is critical to the survival and growth of the music business.
The DSC Work Group has two priorities:
- Standards Implementation
As an official liaison organization to the Digital Data Exchange (DDEX), the Group’s assignment is to encourage and facilitate implementation of the Electronic Release Notification and Digital Sales Report XML standards set forth by DDEX. To assist legacy systems in the adoption of such standards, the Group will be analyzing and showcasing various technologies that can assist in the task. Additionally, the DSC Work Group will examine communications standards in related technology and entertainment industries for applicable learnings. - Other Operational issues
The Group is also working to identify and solve challenges related to other digital operational concerns unrelated to standards adoption.
NARM members who wish to contribute to this work group can contact NARM for more information.
