Showcase Of Artists To Entertain NARM Convention & Trade Show
Attendees
An
incomparable venue for learning about new artists and new music, the
annual NARM Convention & Trade Show strives to features artists that
represent a wide range of genres. The 2002 event is no exception, with
scheduled main stage and nightclub acts performing Alternative, Blues,
Christian, Classical, Country, Electronica, Folk, Gospel, Jazz, Pop,
Reggae, Rock, R&B, and Soul.
The
2002 NARM Convention & Trade Show featuring the Association for
Independent Music (AFIM) will be Friday, March 8, through Tuesday, March
12, at the San Francisco Marriott in San Francisco, California.
Following is a list of the artists scheduled to perform so far;
additional artists will be announced for the nightclub and main stage
events as they are confirmed.
Mainstage
Performances
At
the Opening Business Session on Sunday, March 10, attendees will be
treated to three soaring performances:
•
Word Entertainment’s Nicole
C. Mullen has been noticed for her distinctive voice along with her
songwriting by earning the Gospel Music Association’s Songwriter of
the Year award. Her newest album,
Talk About It, is climbing the Billboard
Heatseekers chart.
•
Multi-platinum-selling
and Grammy Award-winning Jars Of
Clay has career sales topping 5 million albums. This Contemporary
Christian group’s newest release, The
Eleventh Hour, is due out on Essential Records in March 2002.
•
Heather Headley,
described as “the most exciting young singing actress in American
theatre,” is the star of Broadway’s Aida,
a role that earned her a Tony Award. Her debut RCA Records album is due
in 2002.
•
Englishman Russell
Watson has made chart-busting history with his Decca Records debut,
The Voice. U.S. audiences are discovering his phenomenal tenor
voice, as his album is #1 on Billboard’s
U.S. Classical Crossover chart.
At the Closing Business Session on Tuesday, March 12, sit back and
enjoy the ride with a performance by this
energetic Canadian import:
•
The determination of Emerson
Drive explains this Country band’s success that began in a small
town in Canada. Now living in Nashville, its self-titled debut is due
out in early 2002 on the DreamWorks Records Nashville label.
Nightclub
Performances To Light Up The Stage
Check
out the eclectic stylings of these performers at Saturday night’s Club
NARM. Additional performers to be announced.
•
The first solo album by Stew
was an acoustic Pop album called Guest
Host. This critically acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist’s
newest album will be released by Image Entertainment on Smile Records in
March 2002.
•
Dakota Moon has
cranked up the energy for its latest Elektra Entertainment release, A
Place To Land. Buoyed by the success of its self-titled debut, the
band’s new effort is packed with driving Funk-Rock and soulful Rock
’n Roll.
Sunday
night’s Club NARM showcase features artists with unique
sounds
to those revamping old standards:
•
Sheila Nicholls crafts music that is creamy, intoxicating
and emotionally resonant. This Hollywood Records singer/songwriter’s
new single, “How Strong,” evokes chilling immediacy and haunting
grace.
•
Fans of The Tommy
Castro Band have been enthralled since they began playing their
distinctive Blues/Soul/Rock sound in 1991. Their debut on Bayside
Distribution’s 33rd Street Records, Guilty
Of Love, promises to be their best work yet.
•
Singer/songwriter/saxophonist/guitarist, Curtis
Stigers’ 1991 debut album sold more than 1.5 million copies. His
latest, Baby Plays Around, is an eclectic mix of standards on Concord
Records. His next CD will be Secret
Heart.
•
Guitarist Robben Ford
has performed with George Harrison, Joni Mitchell and Miles Davis.
With several acclaimed Blues albums, his highly anticipated Concord
Records debut, Blue Moon, will be released in March 2002.
Entertainment
on the final night of Club NARM will be presented by
Private
Music. These Monday evening performances are sure to get
you
swaying on your feet. An additional artist will be announced.
•
Once a drummer for Ani DiFranco, Andy
Stochansky ventured out on his own, his music inspired by Electronica
and Folk. His latest CD, Radio
Fusebox, is earning rave reviews for this multi-talented musician.
•
Renowned for her blistering, sassy take on the Blues,
Grammy-winning legend Etta James has been performing professionally for nearly 50 years.
Her newest album, Blue Gardenia, reveals
her softer side with a collection of Jazz standards.
•
The son of Bob Marley, Ziggy
Marley has forged a sound all his own, incorporating contemporary
musical forms without losing his essential roots in Reggae. His new album
is set for release in 2002.
NARM
serves the music retailing community in the areas of advocacy, networking,
information, education, and promotion. The Association’s more than 1,000
members include retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and suppliers of
products and services.
