Microsoft’s Will Poole
To Deliver NARM Keynote

The National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) has announced that Will Poole, Vice President of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corporation, will deliver the Keynote Address at the Opening Business Session of the 44th Annual NARM Convention & Trade Show on Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the San Francisco Marriott.

“We’re pleased to have Will Poole speaking at NARM, since Microsoft is such a significant force in the digital media revolution affecting the music retailing community,” says NARM Executive Vice President Jim Donio. “Will brings not only technological vision, but a keen sense of the complex issues surrounding digital music and valuable hands-on experience.
He will undoubtedly shed light on the challenges and opportunities that come with the adoption of digital media, not just for the music retailing community, but for consumers.”

The Windows Digital Media Division delivers core multimedia audio and video technologies for the Windows and Windows CE operating systems, and various portable devices including audio players and cell phones. A key deliverable for the Division is the Windows Media Technologies platform, which enables Internet-based delivery of high-quality audio and video content, while providing a rich open and secure platform for developers and content providers. Over the past three years, Poole has been instrumental in developing Microsoft’s platform strategy for rich media, Web browsing and digital rights management. He has also led the company’s strategic relationships with content providers and the music industry. Poole joined Microsoft in 1996 with the acquisition of eShop Inc., which he co-founded in 1991. Prior to eShop, he spent five years in senior marketing and engineering management roles at Sun Microsystems, focusing on advanced desktop environments and PC compatibility.

NARM serves the music retailing community in the areas of advocacy, networking, information, education, and promotion.  The Association’s more than 1,000 members include retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and suppliers of products and services.  NARM has joined with the Association for Independent Music to blend AFIM events into the 2002 NARM Convention & Trade Show.
