Tower
Records President and CEO Michael Solomon has joined the National Association
of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) Board of Directors. He fills the seat vacated by former Board member Gil Wachsman of
Musicland who resigned following the purchase of Musicland by Best Buy,
Inc. Solomon will finish out the
vacated Board seat’s term and will be eligible for renomination beginning in
2002.
Solomon served as
legal counsel for MTS, Inc., the parent company of Tower Records/Video/Books,
starting in 1975. Founded by his
father, Russ Solomon, MTS takes its very name from Michael Toby Solomon’s
initials. As Executive Vice President,
beginning in 1987, Solomon managed all of the company’s legal affairs, real
estate development and strategic planning.
He also directed Tower’s expansion into several global markets. In 1998, Solomon was appointed President and
CEO for Tower Records, and currently sits on the Board of Directors of MTS and
many of its subsidiaries.
NARM serves the music and other
prerecorded entertainment software industry as the pre-eminent forum for
insight and dialogue for its more than 1,000 member retailers, wholesalers,
distributors, entertainment software suppliers, and suppliers of related
products and services.
