NARM Increases Its “Bandwidth”
NARM President Jim Donio and VP of Digital Strategy & Business Development Bill Wilson participated in the 2010 Bandwidth music and technology conference in San Francisco on Thursday, August 19 and Friday, August 20. Wilson moderated a group discussion entitled “Redefining Distribution: How And Where Music Is (And Will Be) Consumed.”
Wilson guided a conversation that brought to light the disruptive transformation of the discovery and delivery process. He also pinpointed related initiatives being undertaken by the Association’s Digital Think Tank, including improvements to expand the scope and utility of the NARM Database to help improve the distribution channel, and ways to better handle metadata.
Keynoter Jac Holzman recounted tales of his 60-year career, which started when he founded Elektra Records in his St. John’s College dorm room. Holzman, who delivered several memorable speeches at NARM through the years, was one of the leading architects of the Association’s member label infrastructure.
A number of NARM member companies attended the conference, including Artist Garage, Beggars Group, Disney Music Group, Grooveshark, Headliner.fm, Interscope Records, IODA, Jambase, Next Big Sound, The Orchard, TAG Strategic, Universal Music Group Distribution, Warner Bros. Records, and Welk Music Group. NARM co-sponsored the closing cocktail party with members Rovi and INgrooves that featured a performance by new artist Frentic presented by TAG’s Ted Cohen.
