NARM Saddened By Passing Of The Monkees’ Davy Jones
Jim Donio, President of NARM, the music business association, commented on the death of Davy Jones:
“I am so very sad to learn of the sudden passing of Davy Jones, the leader singer of The Monkees. Like so many other acts, The Monkees marked their significant rise in the recording industry when they were recognized by NARM. The band won three major awards at the NARM Convention in 1967 for Best Selling Group, Best Selling Album and Best Selling Single for I’m A Believer. As a child of the 60s, The Monkees were particularly memorable for me. In fact, the very first LP I ever received as a gift was Meet The Monkees for my 10th birthday. Like Glee is for the current generation, The Monkees TV series was a pop culture phenomenon for its time, spawning recordings, merchandise, tours, films, and more. We extend our condolences to Davy’s family and friends.”
